Word families are one of the easiest ways to help beginning readers learn to decipher words by their parts. If you have a beginning reader at home, encourage him or her to learn about word families with this word family bingo game. It’s free to print and fun to play!
What’s Included
The downloadable pdf file contains 8 different bingo cards and 3 pages of words to cut out. We printed these on white cardstock, but you could use whatever paper you’d like.
This bingo set includes the word families -all, -ent, -ip, -og, and -unk. The word endings are color coded to help kids quickly identify which column they should be looking in. There are 10 words in each family.
How to Play
All you need is the printed pdf, some scissors, and something to use as markers. We like using glass stones (you can usually get a bag of these at the dollar store).
After you print, simply cut the word pages along the dotted lines. Then fold each word along the solid line so you cannot see the word when you are drawing. After you have called out the word, you can turn the fold out and the word cards will stand up like little tents.
