Here’s a simple activity that can help with early reading skills & word recognition:
Using some post-it notes and a marker, ask your child to name a body part. Say he chooses “nose”, write the word on a post it and let him stick it on. Body parts are fun to start with because any kid I know just loves sticking stuff on his body (and mom’s, certainly), but you could do items in a room, stuff outside, or family members – use your imagination and your child’s interests. My son is really into cooking, so he likes labeling kitchen stuff.
Once you have a set of labels, you can remove them, mix them up, and try to figure out which word goes where. This is great for beginning readers because they learn to deduce words by the sound the first letter makes.
